- Montreal has cut down 40 mature trees around the Îlot Balmoral and plans to cut more to make room for the Quartier des spectacles. It's happened before: Guillaume Saint-Jean has a Spacing article on the construction of Place des Arts: the 1955 photo shows some of the trees on that block that had to be cut down to build the complex.
